Matthew Lillard Joins Daredevil: Born Again Season 2 in Mystery Role

Daredevil: Born Again may not even have premiered its first season yet—set to debut on Disney+ on March 4—but details are already emerging about season 2. Filming for the next batch of episodes will begin next week in New York, and the big news is that Matthew Lillard, known for his roles in Scream and Five Nights at Freddy's, is joining the cast in an undisclosed role.

Lillard will appear alongside Charlie Cox, who returns as Matt Murdock/Daredevil, and Vincent D'Onofrio as Wilson Fisk/Kingpin. Season 1 consists of nine episodes, continuing the story after Daredevil's cancellation on Netflix in 2018. In this season, Matt has retired from his vigilante life and immersed himself in legal work, while Fisk has his sights set on becoming the mayor of New York City. Yet both men continue to grapple with inner demons, which threaten to resurface.

Other familiar faces from the Netflix series returning for season 1 include Deborah Ann Woll as Karen Page, Elden Henson as Foggy Nelson, Ayelet Zurer as Vanessa Fisk, Wilson Bethel as Benjamin Poindexter/Bullseye, and Jon Bernthal as Frank Castle/Punisher. There’s also a connection to Hawkeye, with Tony Dalton reprising his role as Jack Duquesne, aka the Swordsman.

Showrunner Dario Scardapane, who worked on Netflix’s The Punisher, has previously teased that season 2 will serve as "part 2 of season 1," offering new and exciting directions for the story. He also hinted that the serial killer Muse, whose casting is still under wraps, will have a ripple effect that extends beyond the first season’s events.

In addition to Daredevil, fans can look forward to Jon Bernthal returning as the Punisher in a standalone Marvel special for Disney+ that he’s co-writing with We Own This City collaborator Reinaldo Marcus Green.

Lillard’s casting is a major moment in his career resurgence. He’ll also return to the Scream franchise for the highly anticipated seventh film and star in the Five Nights at Freddy's sequel.

With filming set to start soon, fans are eagerly anticipating what’s next for the Daredevil universe.

Katie Lowes on How Her Husband Responds to Her 'Dirty, Dirty'

Katie Lowes on How Her Husband Responds

Scandal star Katie Lowes shared some hilarious and brutally honest advice for her husband, actor Adam Shapiro, on how to handle watching her steamy onscreen moments. During an appearance on Fake Doctors, Real Friends With Zach and Donald, Lowes was asked about the intimate scenes she filmed on Scandal and if her husband ever experienced jealousy over her "fake TV sex."

"You know, we get asked that a lot," Lowes admitted. "When he married me, he thought, 'Oh, s---, I’m kind of falling for the girl that always has a love story surrounding her, and this is just going to be a part of this.' And he doesn't really get those kinds of roles, but he actually has gotten jealous. He has now."

But Lowes had no sympathy for her husband when it came to her steamy scenes, joking, "He's just gotta f---ing close his eyes and deal with it, man. I mean, the check clears, you know? Like, get over it. I mean, that's my job and, like, it's f---ing awkward anyway."

While Shapiro may have had moments of jealousy, Lowes suggested that any concerns were likely lessened by the actors she was paired with on the show. "I think on that show, I was very lucky to be paired with a much older gentleman, George Newbern [who played Charlie], that we love and is a dear friend, and he probably wasn't much threatened by," Lowes said, adding with a laugh, "although he's a very handsome catch for everybody listening, and he's happily married and blah blah blah."

She also pointed out that her other main love interest, Guillermo Diaz, who played Huck, is openly gay. "So, I think that helped a little bit," she said.

Elsewhere in the podcast, Lowes discussed her Broadway debut in Waitress, how she relied on her experience giving birth to push through nerves during rehearsals, and her side hustle, Schappy Pretzel, which took off during the pandemic. She also shared her love for the show Smash and how she prepared for a Broadway show in just 18 days.

Hudson, known for her iconic roles in Almost Famous and rom-coms like How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days, brings her signature charm and comedic timing to this complex character.

"She's very high strung, really feels like she has a lot to prove constantly and hopes for validation from her family," Hudson shared.

Drew Tarver as Sandy Gordon

Drew Tarver plays Sandy Gordon, Isla's brother and the Waves' CFO. Known for his work on The Other Two, Tarver’s character is the “straight man” of the show, although his efforts to keep everything in order often result in chaos. Tarver excels at playing the reluctant voice of reason.

"I think despite him trying to keep everything on the rails, gripping it so hard is what ends up making him come off the rails," Tarver explained.

Scott MacArthur as Ness Gordon

Ness Gordon, portrayed by Scott MacArthur, is another one of Isla's siblings and the Waves' general manager. A former athlete, he brings both humor and heart to the role. Known for his work on The Mick and The Righteous Gemstones, MacArthur plays the character with a blend of likability and dim-witted charm.

Fabrizio Guido as Jackie Moreno

Jackie Moreno (played by Fabrizio Guido) has one of the more unusual arcs on the show. A snack vendor turned corporate player, Jackie is revealed to be another secret member of the Gordon family, adding intrigue to the dynamic.

"It’s almost like it was written for me, but it wasn’t," Guido joked about his character’s transition.

Chet Hanks as Travis Bugg

Travis Bugg, a troubled Waves player played by Chet Hanks, has a knack for rapping and making headlines for the wrong reasons. Hanks, known for his controversial personal life, brings his own flair to the role.

"I said, 'If I don’t get this role, I’m just going to quit acting,'" Hanks confessed about landing the role.

Toby Sandeman as Marcus Winfield

Toby Sandeman plays Marcus Winfield, a star player for the Waves with two championship rings. Marcus is navigating the pressures of fame, athleticism, and his personal life. Sandeman, a former athlete, uses his own experience to bring authenticity to the character.

"I think Marcus Winfield is going through that [balancing competitiveness with the love of the game]," Sandeman noted.

Jay Ellis as Jay Brown

Jay Brown, played by Jay Ellis, is the coach of the Waves. A former college basketball player himself, Ellis brings his athletic background to the role, creating a character who's both driven and empathetic toward his players.

"I thought about injuries, like guys who had gotten hurt," Ellis reflected on drawing from his real-life experiences for the role.

Jon Glaser as Sean Murphy

Jon Glaser plays Sean Murphy, a caustic sports commentator and one of Isla's most vocal critics. Known for his roles in Parks and Recreation and Girls, Glaser's comedic chops shine as the character who challenges Isla at every turn.

Justin Theroux as Cam Gordon

Finally, Cam Gordon, portrayed by Justin Theroux, is the eldest of the Gordon siblings and Isla's primary obstacle. After going to rehab, Cam names Isla as his successor, setting the stage for her rise to power. Theroux, known for his roles in The Leftovers and White House Plumbers, brings depth and intensity to the character.

"Theroux brings a mix of brash magnetism and commanding frankness to his recurring appearances as Cam," EW's review stated.

Introduction

Alexandra Daddario, known for her roles in Mayfair Witches and The White Lotus, has responded to the persistent rumors and criticism regarding her acting skills. In a new interview with Elle, Daddario firmly rejected the notion that she's a bad actress, offering a strong defense of her career and talents.

Daddario's Defense of Her Acting Talent

The 38-year-old actress acknowledged that some of the projects she's been involved in may not have showcased her talent in the best light. She explained, "I'm not a bad actress. I've just done some projects that don't showcase me in the way that I should be showcased, okay?" She continued, emphasizing the importance of directors and writing in shaping her performances, adding, "Sometimes I'm lit poorly, but I'm not a bad actress."

To solidify her point, Daddario proudly reminded her critics of her Emmy nomination, stating, "I got an Emmy nomination. How do you think I did that?"

Emmy Nomination for "The White Lotus"

Daddario earned her 2022 Emmy nomination for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Limited or Anthology Series or Movie for her portrayal of Rachel Patton in The White Lotus. Her character, a journalist on her honeymoon in Maui, faces the challenges of an unfulfilling marriage. Although the award ultimately went to her co-star Jennifer Coolidge for her iconic role as Tanya, Daddario's performance was still widely praised.

Most Humiliating Celebrity Moment

In her interview, Daddario also recalled the most humiliating thing she had ever said to another celebrity early in her career. At the time, she was discussing the supposed superiority of movie actresses over TV actresses. The conversation took a turn when she realized Christina Applegate was nearby, someone who was highly experienced in television acting. Applegate, known for her roles in Married... With Children, Samantha Who?, and Dead to Me, corrected Daddario, making her feel embarrassed.

Daddario confessed, "I was like 23 years old, saying 'being in a movie is better than being on TV' to someone who's, like, part of some of the best television in the world." Reflecting on the moment, she added, "I still think about it. I'm still embarrassed by it."

Conclusion

Alexandra Daddario's response to the criticism about her acting talent is both candid and confident. She points to her Emmy nomination as undeniable proof of her skills, while also sharing an endearing, humbling story about her early career. Fans continue to appreciate her versatility in both television and film, with Daddario proving that she's much more than the roles she's sometimes been given.
